“It’s not the future you are afraid of, its repeating the past that makes you anxious” – Unknown

A fear years ago, I got rear ended on the freeway. Luckily, it wasn’t a bad accident and everyone involved was safe from harm. If you have ever been in a car accident, you know that it always feels like a surprise. Even if it’s your fault or the other persons – it’s like, “whoa wakeup call” -Pay attention to what you’re doing + your surroundings.

For people who live in a city where they are driving a lot – it also becomes common to experience fender benders and doesn’t really stop you in your tracks as long as everyone is safe.

That being said, I want to share that, it took me months after being rear ended to release the thought + feeling that every time I came to a more abrupt stop while driving that I’d be rear ended again. It was strange and I noticed it immediately. After so many years of driving and only being in a few small accidents – I suddenly had this new fear hanging around.

The truth is we do all do this all the time. If you have ever experienced something traumatic or out of the norm of your comfort zone; chances are it left an imprint on you. Without even noticing it, you began to assume that it would happen again. Than before it even happens you can find yourself feeling anxious, angry or scared. If you believe in the law of attraction – your fear of it happening again may even be attracting it to you!

Does this ring any bells? I have realized this was true for many more circumstances than the car accident. For instance, with money, relationships and work experiences this came up often.

I needed to let go and trust that just because something happened once, doesn’t mean it will happen again. I realized that I didn’t want to live in fear about the “what if it happens again. So I dug deep and brought up the quality of courage!

Courage

I focused on the reminder that just because something happened a few times doesn’t mean it will be the same every time.

  • Letting go takes courage
  • Forgiveness takes courage
  • Allowing this present day to be a new experience takes courage.

This is different than staying stuck because you have a hope that history won’t repeat itself. This is about using the power of your thoughts to guide you to a more positive experience and releasing yourself from the fear of the future.

What are you holding onto that caused fear + anxiety in the past?

What if it’s actually not “that” anymore?

What would more courage look like in your life?
